Esdras Parra

Esdras Parra was born in Santa Cruz de Mora, State of Merida in Venezuela in 1939 and died in Caracas in 2004. She was a poet, essayist, translator and story-writer.

In the sixties, she published the following books: El insurgente (The Rebeal, 1967), Por el norte el mar de las Antillas (On the sea north of the West, 1968), Juego limpio (Fair Play,1968). She was a founding member of Imagen (Image) magazine, where she worked as editor for several years. She had a permanent presence in the literary environment through journals and as a cultural promoter.

After having chosen the female gender and a long editorial silence, she won the Prize of Poetry in the Second Biennial Mariano Picon Salas of Merida (1993) with Este Suelo Secreto (This Secret Land, Monte Avila Editorial, 1995). Subsequently, she published two books of poetry: Antigüedad del frío (Seniority of cold) in 2001 and Aún no (Not yet) in 2004.
He left several unpublished poems and texts, as well as drawings, an activity which she was dedicated in her last years.
