Randy
I understand you are a peruvian trans guy living in Spain, interested in legal process of changing name and gender identity at personal documents and also sex change. This topics are not considered in peruvian legislation, but we plan demand Government for new legal procedures for changing name according with personal identity. This is going to be our first petition because the name is the first any authority read when they ask anybody for identifying. Change of identity and genital assignation is a field in which we really don’t know yet how to approach and also that demand imply social forces with political influences which we don’t have.
The worst limitation trans groups have, specially with masculine trans, is take the decision to get out the closet. I understand some prefer continue hidden because the construction of masculinity has privileges in society. That is why make public a transgender situation means lost status. Fight for our rights is going to conquered when we’ll be a large group with political influence. This is the most important necessity for our movement.
What is really hard to me to accept, in Spain, is that we should have a supervisor of our sexuality: psychologist, psychiatrist. Again we have a represented of society trying to make us “normals” and have the authority of decide for us. From this point of view Spain is not very progressive in this topic. There is some preoccupation about that the right wins and all that was conquered in those years get back and also that all trans will be operated to normalize them. Don’t you think girls have less problems with genital assignation, they only could expect a nice reproductive organs but with no pleasure, it will also imply the end of the orgasm. There are many girls that did that for being accepted and they are still marginalized.

Belissa, thanks for your time
Hi. Thanks a lot for your answer. I was lucky because I meet some guy, masculine trans that give me information, and I feel very lucky because not everybody share with others what they know. What you tell me confirm what I knew about laws in Peru, thanks.
I tried to star with my change of name in Lima but I realize it was very difficult and if you don’t have money, worst. I know that people transexual in Chile are waiting for a kind of resolution, in Santiago, it is a legal fight that is taking more than a year. I hope they have more lucky than us. I was talking with a chilean guy and was very impress about how being so near there are so many differences between Chile and Peru, what some people told POLITICA and talking about that we finished very sad (It is a long topic to discuss in another occasion).
Talking about Spain, Gender identity law is a polemical issue. There is some people that are agree and others that disagree. The law didn’t include people transgender less than 18 years and inmigrants, only spanish citizens. It is also important ask for support about work, that is very important, for spanish and inmigrant people. It is our way of living, if you are an inmigrant and don’t work, and don’t have insurance and don’t have papers, you stay, easily.
For inmigrants the only way is having spanish nationality, and that is something you don’t have for one day to another, it takes years. Everybody is expected to elections on march 9th. After that we will see what happen with inmigrants because probably Spain Government is going to change legislation about inmigration.
In the treatment, Andalucía is one of the pioneers. If you are a young person and don’t start with hormonization, you have to go to psychologist for two years in Carlos Haya, Málaga. I’m in that, I’m looking for in the place I live now. Start with the treatment is not easy, because when you are young is more difficult, you have to look very very secure.
Another thing, a psychologist can’t prove you are a trans people, can’t he?, what could do is prove that you are not insane or that you don’t have mentally harm, because is not that they learn that in university. I think trans condition is something psychologist community didn’t know, they will know when they have patients with that condition in their professional life. I think gender law give more power to them, because you depend on their decision, what you really are, your identity, depends on them. Your are in their hands, if you want a certificate that said your are transgender person and could be operate.
There are some people that has been waiting eight years. In Málaga many persons look for private doctors. If PP conquer the Government they want that genital assignation will be an obligation, ¡an obligation! Specially when is well know that is an operation that didn’t have excelents results because techniques are not getting better, some people who had been operated is in bad conditions, they are not happy, that didn’t happen with girls trans, for them operation is satisfactory and they could do it. Researching in medical matters also depends on demand.
Thanks a lot for your mail, I’m passioned talking and understand this issue (I hope not bored you with this, sorry if I did). I’m ignorate in many things and I want to learn and understand. I really want to continue in touch.
