The Godmother
This is a short film written and directed by Mexican Tavo Ruiz. The story is simple: a woman who was asked by her niece to be her godmother. How hard can be that petition? The one that goes with being a transsexual woman. In fact, Lola wants to fulfill the wish of Yazmin, it is an order and are associated with family prestige, social recognition, renewal of faith.
The first step is for the priest to accept her as godmother of Yaz, but as expected what happens is that she is expelled from the Church, likewise called by the male name, Eduardo, in which Lola is not recognized and described as sick, deviant, compared to righteousness, the "good path", which supposedly would be represented by the priest and the church he leads. It shows the law of the patriarchal, heterosexist, sexist, discriminatory and perpetuates binary daily violence and marginalization against women trans.
While the end could invite a return to order, the waiver of real and concrete identity, seems to be the spirit of questioning and subverting the proposal, at least with their hands, against a context that has been obsolete. An interesting proposal that should be seen.
