Exhibition “Discrimination is dehumanization”. Amnesty International: Estanquillo Museum. Mexico DF, 2008.
Amnesty International is an international non-governmental organization which defines its mission as "to conduct research and generate action to prevent and end grave abuses of human rights and to demand justice for those whose rights have been violated”. This exhibition is focus on all identities that are considered in sexual diversity.
Consider all experience that had Amnesty in more than fifty years, exhibition is quite poor. There are no more than ten posters about discrimination, some of then very well done. Unfortunately there is no any other information about LGBT human rights, especially Trans identities (transvestites, transsexuals and transgenders) which are the less know. That is why exhibition seems only a catalogue of good intentions.
There is a space with many ribbons in which is written human rights. People are invited to write in a post-it their thoughts about discrimination and how they like to be the world without discrimination. Also there is a video about Amnesty history and work they do but anything about LGBT specific information of their situation about respect of their human rights. Exhibition is next to a living room that is a library and another that is a place to play with children. I don’t know if exhibition planed activities in those spaces. They could exhibit also some books about human rights and specially LGBT human rights and also plan activities with children.
As Amnesty is an international organization we hope much more information about LGBT discrimination. There is only some facts about Trans people which said they suffer discrimination since are very young from school and family, because they show wanted to be a person with different gender that correspond with the sex they born. Unfortunately the information is very little also for those who don’t know anything about this topic, because there is not enough to understand the situation, and also for those who go with the intention to know more about it.
