Didactic Guide about Transsexuality for Youngsters and Teenagers
This Guide is a project of COGAM, coordinated with Cultural Commission, in collaboration with Education Commission and Transsexual Area, to give information about transsexual’s people to teenagers and adolescents. They choose language of comic as the best way to get the attention of this dynamic public. Guide is illustrated by Aniel, characters of her comic “Anima fragile”. Aniel is a feminine Trans that broke the silence to talk about her identity. She is very talent and through her character could teach and give information about experience of transsexuality. The Guide also had some explanations and academic information written by Lola Martín. It is a simple but clear Guide that could help anybody in the identification of its identity. It talks about what means transsexuality, which changes were suffer and how understand it from society and family. Is very didactic an is useful for all who want to know about this topic because join experience with academic information, so I think is only possible for adults and other people that know for the first time about transsexuality.
Most of Trans people know since they are very little that don’t fit in the gender that society want for them, that is why this Guide is very useful to those who don’t know who they are. It could be better if the Guide also explain difference between transsexuals, transgenders and transvestites, to complete the distinction about homosexuals, heterosexuals and bisexuals. Also something to consider is Trans people don’t have access to medical treatment until they are adult and it means a lot of suffering because they had to see how their body development in somebody they don’t want to be. In the Guide Aniel feels very scary about body hair. That could suggest that maybe laws could change in order to allow young Trans stop hormonal change before become a man or a woman instead of do it after it. Medical science should study this situation and give a satisfactory answer to those transsexuals needs.
It should be consider also that there are some identities as transvestites or transgenders that don’t want a change of sex that are broken with binarism men/women and tried to create a new identity mix up physical and subjective qualities that should be represented in the Guide, at least as an alternative.
I think the Guide is excellent and we hope could be more books like this with other topics that are also important for Tran’s community. Could be created a Guide about the others identities (transvestites, transgenders) and intersex, and also a Guide for family of Trans people to help them to understand and accepted the situation without suffer or sorrow. We celebrate this effort and the Guide could be downloading from here or from the COGAM.
