From the various perceptions that have been delivered in the dialogue on prostitution, I shall take a view on the topic, all from my work as an activist Transgender Organization for Dignity of Diversity (OTD) and reality of my country, Chile:
* From a global point of view, sex work in Chile carried out by trans girls and boys, is considered by 90% the way for their livelihood. This gives levels of vulnerability and stigmatization of those engaged in sex work. You know it is a way for those who can not get other forms of remuneration.
* This type of work requires certainly pretty perseverance, sex work is also repudiated by political and religious groups in our country, and frequently seen on TV reports giving the dark and nasty side of this form of work, giving emphasis on life forms and assimilating scourges of crime, trafficking and drug use.
* In our society sex work boys and girls cross is a controversial issue, which is seen from prejudiced attitudes, stigmatizing, discriminatory and violate all sorts of human rights. As an example, two years ago in the article of Las Condes, one of the richest in the metropolitan region's capital, the mayor backed the same commune residents refused to live with cataloging trans people in the worst way and even prohibiting them from entering certain streets, which attacks the essential dignity of human beings. This was restored by constitutional rights, and the government gave support to the girls continueing the haunt of the physical space. This did not go into the finer debate, which was that the girls are installed in this commune, because a high percentage of customers come from this district, and that those who pay for sexual favors, are voting on a measure so far-fetched as described.
* The distinction between sexual conditions is the gap that separates us in society, therefore, a way of solution is to promote policies to confront the transsexual and transgender community; in this way we would be generating the integration and would prevent those groups from falling in prostitution because there is a tolerant society with formal jobs, and stop stigmatizing.
* Addressing this reality has required the work of awareness and concern from various sectors of society, especially organizations formed by small groups that promote, work and defend sexual diversity.
* Discriminatory and pejorative attitudes against trans women involved in prostitution. We give way to qualify the "sex work" as work and as noted by the author of the quote: "Prostitution is not a viable work option, it is a cover-up power relation of domination and exploitation"(1).
* As a proposal, the State should take a more active stance against the issue, reinforcing the view that became known through this study, increasing the incorporation of gender issues for civil society advocacy.
* There is the need to vote the law of gender identity, where they can recognize and change their names on the identification card and appear in the photograph as their gender identity. This would open opportunities to access education, decent jobs and better payed jobs, the other to understand your body transformation is the demand to be recognized as their feelings, their sexuality and the name of "soul"(2).
* The claim, exercise and acceptance of Chilean society, is a short term need, even more, if you think that there are lives at stake being put at risk of being murdered by groups. It is necessary to generate discussion, to open spaces, to make visible those groups, both in the societal sphere and in politics, since both of them are matters of common interest.
