Change to accept: Amendment of ILGA Constitution and Standing Orders
Nevertheless, this vision of the sexuality oriented in a binarie sense doesn’t recognize those who have raised a different identity to that expected to their biological sex at birth and rejects the gender recreated themselves to that one imposed. So, the community trans (travestis, transexuals, transgender and intersexuals) in order to be recognized, need to extend the concept of sexuality towards the gender identity, in which all diversity members: sexual and gender diversity can be seen reflected.
The proposals of ILGA’s Constitution and Standing Orders changes look for to include in the discourse what actually already is a real initiative stablished among Latin America: the Trans participation in the Regional Secretariat. We expect further ILGA’s managements make this principles explicit and be a base to guide the work of the new secretariat, like the first step for an universal conception of the diversity in which it does not reproduce the squashy supremacy of the masculine identity, but all flow together as pairs in the fight for the respect and recognition of the multiple experience of human being.
In summary, the changes that have been include in different parts of the Constitution and Standing Orders are:
• Have been changed the initials ILGA to ILTGA in all the cases, and developed its new long form as: International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersexual Association.
• Have been added trans and intersexuals like specific population that accompanies gays lesbians and bisexuals like the objective population to which ILGA actions go.
• Have been added to the definition of sexual orientation, the one of gender identity and expression, that picks up not only the right of any person to define desires and necessities himself/herself, but to express their option without discrimination.
• Finally the General Secretary must be fitted with three members, so that there can be represented the three great groups that integrate ILGA: gays, lesbians and trans.
These changes almost proposed are the total acceptance of the trans community within ILGA, extending the discourse of sexual and gender diversity, in the way to represent the different gender identities.
